TROOP 342 LEADERSHIP

 

 

SENIOR PATROL LEADERS

 

The real leadership in a Boy Scout Troop are the Scouts themselves, led by a Senior Patrol Leader and the Patrol Leader's Council.  The three Scouts shown represent our Senior Patrol Leader, flanked on each side by his two assistants. (Names withheld from website)

Troop 342 Senior Patrol Leaders are Big Horn (NYLT) trained.  These young men are responsible for the Patrol Leaders Council and they run the Troop meetings and activities, manage menus and duty rosters, and represent the Troop at all official functions.

 

 

 

 

Patrol Leaders & Troop Guides

The Patrol Leaders, along with the Senior Patrol Leader, two Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders, the Troop Guides and the Troop Scribe represent the Patrol Leaders Council.  As a group, they plan the Troop meetings and activities, and provide critical communications to Troop membership.

 

 

 

SCOUTMASTERS:

 

 

PETER GARIN, Scoutmaster

A former and returning Scoutmaster, Mr. Garin has received the Advanced Training Award, Scoutmaster's Key, and the Scoutmaster's Award of Merit.  An attorney in public life, he specializes in juvenile, custody and divorce litigation.   Besides Scouting, Mr. Garin is an avid hunter and occasionally dips a line in the local fishing stream.

 

Training: New Leader Essentials, Boy Scout Leader Specific, Outdoor Leader Skills, and Woodbadge (Buffalo).  Mr. Garin serves on Staff for Woodbadge and has led the Troop on high adventure activities to Philmont, Double-H and Boundary Waters, as well as numerous summer camp adventures.

 

 

JIM BAKER, Assistant Scoutmaster

Mr. Baker is our Winter Sports expert, and specializes in downhill skiing.  He generally leads the Troop on skiing/snowboard/snowshoe trips, summer camp and backpacking adventures.  He has been on two Philmont Treks and a high-adventure canoe trip with the Troop.  Mr. Baker has been with Troop 342 since 2000.  Jim has the advanced training award. Training includes New Leader Essentials, Boy Scout Leader Specific, Outdoor Leader Skills.

 

DENNIS CAMERON, Assistant ScoutmasterMr. Cameron has been an active Assistant Scoutmaster since 2005.  He is driven by the thrill of accomplishing challenging goals, and enjoys all the outdoor activities.  With two teenagers at home, he is afraid of nothing!

CHARLES COOPER, Assistant Scoutmaster

Mr. Cooper is an alumni of Troop 342 as an Eagle Scout and the Troop's first recipient of a Silver Palm.  He also served two years as Scoutmaster.  Mr. Cooper has degrees from the Colorado School of Mines in Mechanical Engineering and an MS in Engineering Management. An avid Scout Leader, Mr. Cooper truly enjoys the Scouting program, the outdoor element and the boy-led philosophy.  He has been a member of Troop 342 since 1994.

RODGER GHERING, Assistant ScoutmasterMr. Ghering has been an Assistant Scoutmaster since 1998, and an NRA Certified Instructor since 2001.  As a premier shooting sports instructor, Mr. Ghering also leads such activities as "Survivor" weekend.  In private life, Mr. Ghering enjoys hunting, fishing, and mountain-man activities.

Training:  New Leader Essentials, Boy Scout Leader Specific, Outdoor Leader Skills, NRA certification, NAA certification.

 

 

MICHAEL HANSEN, Ass't Scoutmaster

Michael is a craftsman at heart and has many excellent technical skills as a cabinet maker.  He is active with many Troop activities, is an excellent chef and really "spices things up" in the outdoor kitchen.  He has been a Troop member since 2006.

Training includes New Leader Essentials, Boy Scout Leader Specific, Outdoor Leader Skills and Woodbadge (Antelope)

 

 

COLIN HAUSE, Assistant Scoutmaster

Colin is one of our youngest Assistant Scoutmasters.  An Eagle Scout with the Troop, he immediately moved into the position of Assistant Scoutmaster, taking charge as the Troop's Activity Chair.  In this role, Mr. Hause is responsible for coordinating the activity funds, supportive documentation and assisting activity leaders with trip planning.

 

 

 

 

JOHN JOHNSON, Assistant Scoutmaster

John has two sons in the program, and brings an enthusiasm and charisma that binds the Troop together.  Always available with a kind heart and kind words, Mr. Johnson is an integral part of our program.

KEITH JOHNSON, Assistant Scoutmaster

As a Scout, Mr. Johnson carried the title "The Professor".  An Eagle Scout with the Troop, Keith remains a student and has aspirations of joining the U.S. Marine Corps. as a next adventure.

 

 

 

 

EARNEST MAULDIN, Assistant Scoutmaster

New to the Troop this year, Mr. Mauldin has served as Cubmaster with Pack 291, and brings his depth of working with youth to the Troop level.

MIKE MICKELS, Assistant Scoutmaster

Mike is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys challenging activities.

SCOTT POCSIK, Assistant Scoutmaster/Quartermaster

Scott is an experienced Scouter.  He has served as Cubmaster for Pack 135 for several years, and now has two sons in Troop 342.  Scott has been in a leadership role at Summer Camp in Colorado and Minnesota for the last 4 years.  In his spare time, Scott is a Division Chief with the Jefferson County Sheriff and brings a wealth of knowledge, and skills that support our Troop.

GREG ROHR, Assistant Scoutmaster

The Troop's youngest and most recent Assistant Scoutmaster, Greg is an Eagle Scout with Troop 342, and is looking forward to more Scouting adventures as an adult leader.

 

 

 

 

MARWIN SEVERE, Assistant Scoutmaster

A former Scoutmaster with the Troop, Mr. Severe is also a former Cubmaster.  He joined Troop 342 in 1998 and has led our Troop through numerous activities, including summer camp, caving, rock climbing, ski trips and fishing expeditions.  He is honored with Order of the Arrow (Brotherhood), and the Scouters Training Award.

Training includes New Leader Essentials, Boy Scout Leader Specific, Outdoor Leader Skills, Trainer Development.

 

 

BRAD WILLIAMS, Assistant Scoutmaster

Brad joining the Troop in 2007.  We look forward to tapping his vast knowledge and skills of the outdoors.  Brad is also the source behind some of the excellent photography of Scouts in action!

The Troop Committee:

 

STEVE DENDINGER, Troop Committee Chair

A former Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster and Eagle Advisor with Troop 342, Mr. Dendinger has been honored with a Scoutmaster's Key, the Scoutmasters Award of Merit, Order of the Arrow (Brotherhood), Scouter's Training Award.  He is a former Cub Scout Den Leader with Pack 477.  Steve has been with the Troop since 1995.

Training includes Scouter Fundamentals (NLR/BSLS/OLS), and Wood Badge (Fox).

 

 

 

 

 

TERESA SCHUYLER, Charter Rep/Treasurer

Mrs. Schuyler is the "matriarch" of our Scout Troop. She has been with the Troop since 1989, and was a former Cub Scout Den Leader for 9 years and Girl Scout leader for 12 years.  She has been serving the Troop in her current dual-role since 1996.  Teresa also serves the Gateway District in various training and registration functions.  She is the mother of two Eagle Scouts.

Boy Scout Training includes New Leader Essentials, Troop Committee Challenge, Charter Representative Training.

 

 

SARAH BRAZEE-CANON

Sarah is a new member of the Troop, joining in mid-2011.  She is already involved with fund-raising, and brings her experience as a Pack Committee Chair to our organization

 

 

 

 

CHERYL FRANKLIN-ROHR, Merit Badge Coordinator

Cheryl has been our Troop's Merit Badge Coordinator for several years, and recruits new Counselors, maintains the data base and assists Scouts with their badges.  Her son is an Eagle Scout with the Troop, and also an Assistant Scoutmaster.

 

 

DAVID HART, Advancement Chair

David  is a former Cubmaster and now serves on the Troop Committee.  David is an avid hiker and backpacker and leads many of the Troop activities in these areas.

Training includes New Leader Essentials, Boy Scout Leader Specific and Outdoor Leader Skills.

 

 

 

MARYLEE HAUSE

Marylee Hause is the former Committee Chair of the Troop.  Currently residing in California, she remains a loyal part of our Troop.  Her many years of dedicated leadership with Troop 342 will be missed, but our long-distance relationship will continue to thrive!

 

 

 

 

KAYLE JOHNSON

The mother of two Eagle Scouts, Kayle is one of the Troop's Swimming Instructors.  Mrs. Johnson has also faithfully served on several fund-raising committees.

Training includes New Leader Essentials, Boy Scout Leader Specific Outdoor Leader Skills, and Troop Committee Challenge.

 

 

 

 

CRAIG JORGENSON

Mr. Jorgenson is the proud father of a Troop 342 Eagle Scout.  He serves the Troop as the newsletter editor and also as a Merit Badge Counselor

 

 

 

 

 

DAVID MARIEA

A newcomer to the Troop, David has recently stepped up to take over the role as Activity Chair, assisting Mr. Hause with the responsibility to gather activity funds, permission slips, Tour Permits, etc. for the activity leaders.  An important role for sure!

 

 

 

 

DOUG SCHUYLER

An Eagle Scout with the Troop, Doug recently returned from Colorado after spending five years in New York.  Also recently married, Doug continues to support the Troop with various efforts in fund-raising, activities and support.

 

 

 

 

JIM SCHUYLER

AKA "The Meanest Man in the World", Mr. Schuyler is a former Scoutmaster for the Troop.  He continues to lead many of the high adventure activities, and supports the Troop in a variety of roles.  He is also the webmaster for the Troop.
